When I think of Polka Dots, these words come to mind: prim, wholesome, retro, vintage, cutesy; none of which I am. This pattern has never been in high rotation with my style repertoire & I struggle with the question: “Is that really me?” Yes, Polka dots have always had a playful, fun, flirty factor & have proved to be endlessly versatile. To overcome my preconception of Polka dots, here is my interpretation: I started with a subtle, traditional, black & white, symmetrical pattern. To keep my dress from looking too sweet, I paired it with a black studded belt & leather Converse high-tops.

Changing up the color, the scale & the asymmetrical placement of polka dots will make the look bold & totally fresh…. that’s my next move! Also, looking for edgy silhouettes like pencil skirts, sleeveless midi dresses, slim high-waisted pants pushes the look in the direction of street-style cool. A shrunken blazer & ankle-strap stiletto sandal creates a sophisticated, ultra-feminine feel. For a great date night, adding platform, peep-toe heels & a leather jacket gives a polka dot dress a more grown-up feel. This pattern is “spot on”, how will you style Polka Dots?
