What emotions does spring create?
There’s definitely a feeling of relief that we made it through another 5 months of cold & the last of winter is behind us. With the longer days & that extra hour of sun, I have this child-like feeling of excitement. This may sound silly, but the description is this symbolic act of peeling off a layer of blah & there’s a feeling of rejuvenation. We are coming out of the winter slumber & ready for the warm weather to energize us. Nature is in the phase of rebirth & new growth; it’s the same for us.
The New Year has been pegged as the time to start your resolutions, but spring seems more appropriate to me. HELLOOOOOOOO! We’ve all heard the phrase, ”Spring into Action”. The warm weather is such a motivator for myself. Seriously, who wants to make unrealistic self-changing decisions in the dead of winter? I admit that I just lack the motivation in January. Maybe it’s because my day-to-day focus is to just stay warm & shovel the snow off my car, my driveway & my house, because we are so buried.
The Fab 40s theme of floral was perfectly appropriate for March. The colorful motif represents the glorious mood for this time of year! The floral print is a girly, feminine trend that typically isn’t something I gravitate towards, but I was excited to add my twist & make it my own.
This was a true challenge for me as floral print is probably the one trend I struggle with the most & I count the number of floral items in my closet with one hand. I’ve also been away from Massachusetts since January, & obviously, packed a limited addition of clothing. A dear friend snuck in my Natick home to find this skirt, flew down for a visit & delivered the much needed item just in time to do a shoot. I was also lucky enough to have a fashionista friend of mine here in Florida purge her closet (the very same week) & so generously offered me a huge bag of goodies, one being this vibrant yellow, gingham button-down. Are you kidding me?!?! Everything is falling into place! All I needed was my trusty sneakers, a few simple accessories & my look was complete.
I can run on my tippy toes with these comfy sneaks!
My look was bright & full of pattern, so I wanted to keep my accessories simple.
A little close-up of how I mixed my prints.
Jumping is instinctive & makes me feel like a kid!!! Wheeeeeee!
Shot this look between rain storms. Time to head home before we get drenched!
Unique tourist activity is horse & buggy rides! They are romantic, relaxing & the guide offers tons of historic information about St. Augustine, Florida. This big guy was happy to pose with me.
These fabulous fashionistas & bloggers have such a unique interpretation of floral. Their personal style is striking & that is the very reason why I have loved connecting with each & everyone of these stylish ladies via this positive platform: The Fab 40s! After you oogle over their looks, check out their incredible blogs! They all have wonderful, thoughtful, powerful sites with much to share!
Let’s start with our Guest Fashion Blogger, Andrea of Living on Cloud Nine. Her last name is “Nine”, how awesome is that?!?! She was meant to have this blog title. Her floral maxi skirt is unbelievably vibrant & she gives a great example on how to work the chambray button-down into a look. Now, I’ve not personally met her, but she seems like the most bubbly person EVER with tons of energy & positive outlook on life.
Next, I have to give mad props to Ann of Kremb de la Kremb. She made her skirt!!! Yes, not only is she crazy stylish, she is crazy creative. You took this to another level, Ann, & you have inspired me to get the dust off my sewing machine & get to stitching. You also inspired me with adding socks with my pumps & platform sandals. Your color combo is cool & soothing!!!
Jennie who is behind A Pocketful of Polka Dots is showcasing quite possibly the most incredible statement coat. I do love how she kept the rest of your look simple, so the coat was the standout, but still was able to interject some great color with her kelly green tee & fuschia flats, so casual & cool! That perfect backdrop makes her look pop even more!
My first thought when I saw Dawn Lucy’s look was sexy with that high slit! Hey, if you’ve got great legs, show ’em off!!! Then I thought comfy & flowy, then vibrant, so I guess that is how I describe this gorgeous look head to toe. I also love this maxi dress has pockets. Pulling off the “floral-on-floral” look is tough, but she nailed it by incorporating her vintage bag with the smaller print.
I love that we have another gorgeous look with a floral maxi from the gorgeous Mary of Curlybyrdie Chirps. She looks a little mysterious & little bohemian with her super fun floppy hat. I love the plunging neckline & deep rich color of this floral pattern. And, her choice of heels is so unexpected, but goes perfectly!
Can I just quickly say how much I love Samantha’s charming personality, fiery red hair, pixie cut & adorable smile?!?! She wins MVP for mixing prints. I have no idea how she pulled off floral, stripes & polka dots, but the subtleness of each print works perfectly together. Not one item overwhelms the other, rather, they seamlessly work like a charm!
I had to end this post with the most badass, no boundaries blogger, Sheela of Sheela Writes. Let me tell you, this lady can write!!! She is also demonstrating the ease of mixing prints. Not only is she working “blue-on-black”, but choosing a tiny polka dot print with a large floral print was genius! These ankle boots are crazy cool! I think a new bucket list of mine is to acquire an invitation to hang out in her shoe closet.
I think most of us were a little apprehensive for this style challenge, but we proved it was a breeze & fun to dig deep in our closets to create a inspirational look! There so many fashionable options with the floral print, not just skirts & dresses. Think outside box! I’ve seen floral print in rompers, pumps, platform sandals, belts, bags, kimonos, shorts, bomber jackets, jumpsuits & so much more. There is something for everyone no matter your style aesthetic.
Make sure you come back for next month’s Fab 40s as I will be choosing our theme & also invite a guest blogger to join us. Hopefully, it will be exciting stuff! I have a lot to think about over the next couple of days!
