I’ve been one to swim upstream, go against the crowd & never really wanted to live the normal life. You know …. graduate college, get a career, get married, have 2.4 kids, settle down. I never wanted what was considered the typical American lifestyle. I never wanted the 9 to 5 job, sit in a cubicle, take lunch at noon, sit in traffic after work, read the paper, move the lawn kind-of-life.
So this month’s theme of taking formal, fancy, evening wear & creating day looks came so easily to me. It’s about switching your mind-set. Do the opposite of what is traditional, popular or normal. It is about doing something differently, doing the unexpected & being unpredictable.
How many of you have purchased that special dress, skirt or top for a holiday party, wedding or special occasion & then it just ends up taking up space in your closet, never to be worn again? My wallet hates when I do that! If you could increase the number of wears per item, think how much your wallet will appreciate you, so don’t be so quick to donate or throw items away!
This is a lesson on how to take those special-occasion clothes to create unique daytime looks.
It only takes a few casual tweaks to create an easy look for day. Just think about adding more grounded pieces to complete your look. There are so many choices such as a graphic t-shirt, denim, sneakers, flats, choosing a tomyboy or menswear-inspired piece like a bomber jacket or loafers are great options. A larger roomy bag, crossbody bag & chunky jewelry add to the vibe.

VALE of FASHION & COOKIES
Vale is our Guest Blogger of the Month! You will fall in love with her fun upbeat blog, stylish chic looks & the fact she shares her posts in both Italian & English!!! Her look so glam & classy! Don’t you feel like a modernized version Grace Kelly or Jackie O just walked into the building?!?! This is the most amazing take of blue on blue. Did you notice how she incorporated the rose print in the dress with the rose texture in her lace top? Genius! Vale is not scared to have blue in every piece of her look, even down to the tiny pop of blue on her gold watch. Perfection!

SAMANTHA of FAKE FABULOUS
Queen of layers, texture & color! I love Samantha! No, seriously, I absolutely love her & her unique style. Taking a dress & tricking me into thinking it was a polka dot midi skirt was sneaky & so clever that she took advantage of the hi-lo hem of her t-shirt. How she can take 4 different prints & not look overly busy? I would look like a hot mess! Teach me, teach me! I just found another pair of sneakers …. Wait, gutties, I need to have!!!

MARY of CURLYBYRDIE CHIRPS
My Glam Gal! Mary has the most divine hourglass shape & killer curves out there!!! I immediately had sexy images of Sophia Loren, Marlene Dietrich, Rizzo from Grease when I saw this look! She is completely modernized this retro 50s outfit with her choker & chunky-heeled sandals. The pop of orange in her bag goes perfectly with her striped top. I have this knit top & never would have never thought to pair it with a white sequin midi skirt! Amazing!

JENNIE of A POCKETFUL OF POLKA DOTS
Jennie achieved a look that is so approachable, super easy to pull together & perfect for running errands, going out to lunch, hitting a flea market, heck, even picking up the kids from school. Another great representation that sequins are perfect for day, especially when you add a few casual elements like she did with her relaxed jeans & rolling up the sleeves to her jacket! Of course, I’m a sucker for any sneaker & they make the entire look. Btw, Jennie, can I have yours? Love the print!!!

Ann grounds her sequin look with a fun graphic tee along with her super comfy sandals. I was scared to try this much sequin in my look, but she proved me wrong! And, proved, once & for all, sequins are perfect for day! Her waist belt (aka bum bag, fanny pack) makes this look downtown cool …… yes, they are back in style & oh, so fun!!!
