We’re da Bomb! Yes, I know, cliché & maybe a bit cheeky!
Seriously, we ARE the bomb! We are just down right cool, & can I be that audacious & ballsy (excuse my language) to say, we have major points on style, too! I’d never have the guts to utter something that bold in my teens or 20s. When I was 20, I thought 40 was old. Now, that I’m actually on the cusp of 46, I realize 46, isn’t so old after all. I feel as young now as when I was actually in my 20s.
Did you ever think in your 40s you’d be wearing a bomber jacket let alone denim cut-offs, plunging necklines, tight skirts, high heels, high tops? Not me! I looked at my mom & just assumed I had limited time to dress fun, explore clothing, take risks, bare my belly or wear a bikini. After 40, it was going to be all over with experimenting, trying new things & being creative.
We are so lucky that boundaries have been broken; rules have been thrown out the window when it comes to fashion & styling for the 40+ woman. We are just saying NO to the naysayers & yes to us! Again, excuse my language, but screw those 20-something bloggers & fashionistas. They got nothing on us! They think they rule the world with all their years of knowledge, college degrees… hey, I felt the same way back then, but now I reflect knowing I didn’t have a clue. Wait, until they are our age & see how much more fun it is!
They are too busy checking themselves in the mirror, checking to see who is checking them out & seeking all of this reassurance. Nope! Not now! I supply my own reassurance. I’m done apologizing, done saying I’m sorry, done with the thought that I’m not good enough. We are more than good enough. We kick ass! …… Wow, I’m a potty mouth today!
We know ourselves so well that we don’t feel pressure to follow & wear every trend. We chose the ones that work perfectly with our style aesthetic, lifestyle, body type, activity & who we are as individuals. We have nothing to lose because we assume no one is looking our way, so why not just go for it.
With each of our blogs, we really are showing the world that 40 is the new 20!!! With each of our blogs, we are sending out a tiny message & all those tiny messages combined are making a big impact. Our message is loud & clear: We can wear what we like with no restrictions based on skin color, weight, ethnic background, status or our work. We dress for us, not how society thinks we should dress. We dress for occasion, not based on our age. We dress for our mood. We are positively changing the preconceived thought of what a woman of age should or should be wearing, where we shop or how we live our life.
We have an incredible unique viewpoint, a unique selling point for women our age & beyond. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been influenced by 40+ bloggers & their personal take on a certain article of clothing & the positive spin they bring to the table.
I had my eye on this Zara bomber jacket for months, but would only allow myself to purchase it once it went on sale. Just my luck! As soon as my discounted item arrived, a few days later, Sheela revealed this month’s theme: The Bomber Jacket! There was no hesitation with what my look was going to be including a few backup plans….. But, unexpected travel to Oklahoma to see my mom added one more option to the mix.
My mother & I purchased this pleated midi skirt more than 20 years ago. I had always remembered this skirt & the second I walked in the door, I asked is she still had it. Yes she did, it looked as beautiful & pristine as the day we bought it!
It is hard to tell, but this skirt is a shimmery, silky seersucker fabric & the shade is the yummiest, sweetest pale peachy/pink hue.
So let’s check the Fab 40s to see this month’s spin on styling a bomber jacket. Come on, how can you not feel like the ultimate cool girl in a bomber jacket?!?! I feel like I belong inside the funkiest joint in the East Village, that I would get picked out of the line to get past that damn velvet rope!!! I always wanted to be invited to sit at the popular table in high school. Being a part of The Fab 40s, I feel like I’ve arrived at the cool table. I’m accepted for who I am, my vision & fun with styling. I don’t get judged, made to feel inadequate or that I lack that certain something.
The Fab 40s are showcasing the limitless ways to interpret how to style a bomber jacket.
Let’s start with our Guest Blogger, Grace of Color & Grace, who I’ve fallen in love with over the past several months. Grace is poised, elegant, yet super fun & I love how she is not afraid of color. The bold floral motif is gorgeous & pairing it with a flirty vibrant skater skirt is so playful for summer. She is just so downtown cool girl with her patent platform bluchers…. now I know my next purchase!

She just thinks about who she is, where she is going & what she loves on a personal level. In the end, she isn’t looking for anyone’s approval, as she is her very own stylist & cheerleader.
