To Top It off! Yes, that is the way I felt coming into the month of September. Seriously, what else could go wrong? We all know the phrase, “When it rains, it pours”. If one thing was going crazy insane, then low & behold everything else seemed to want to join the “crazy insane” party. So, to top it off, time & life was not on my side to be able to join The Fabulous 40s for this month’s theme: HATS!
But, now that I’m home with my mother, I’ve finally had a moment to breathe, sit down to write a little something & show off these incredible, super fun fashionistas!
I love hats …… on everyone else! My excuse: Big Hair, tiny head! I’m afraid I will look like Bozo the Clown with crazy, out-of-control hair sticking out of the bottom of my hat. Hats are so stylish, so fun & such a playful way to finish a look. There are so many ways to accessorize & complete a look. Sure, we all can throw on a scarf, add a bracelet, belt or boots, but hats set you apart when it comes to unique styling. Take Rihanna with her leather baseball hat, chambray button-down, distressed denim pencil skirt & nude heels….. so fierce & fun! Another Rihanna special: slouchy beanie, crop top, high-waisted pencil leather skirt, high-top sneaks with vibrant red lipstick was so crazy cool! So, yes, I had to cheat & look for inspiration & she was my muse for the month! It was so fun researching & seeing how hats complement your personal style, face & change the way you look. I just didn’t want to choose a hat for the sake of this month’s theme. I wanted to take my time choosing a color to go with many outfits year round, style that would be versatile, timeless & best suited for me. I own many beanies/large knit hats since we have long, cold winters in Massachusetts, but didn’t just want to pull out the usual winter topper just to add to a look for this month’s theme. Choosing a fun, colorful, versatile baseball hat felt right! Since I missed joining the group this month, I will have play catch up & showcase my look in the very near future. But, in the meantime, you definitely need to scroll down to see the creative ideas from the Fab 40s. I present to you 7 global fashionistas in hats!
Janeane of https://designingfrommycloset.com
So excited that Janeane is our Guest Blogger for the month! She has created a totally elevated bohemian look by adding her floppy hat & caged heels! By pairing a simple, relaxed tee & great fitting denim, she has achieved a “dressed up, yet casual look” simultaneously. Janeane’s slouchy tote is the perfect pop of color & her long chain necklace & cuff are the best finishing touch….. Damn, she looks so darn adorable!

Veronica of http://www.cidstylefile.com
The woman behind this month’s theme! Greek Goddess with a twist! This floor length maxi is so bold & beautiful! The olive green is such a gorgeous color, so striking & looks absolutely fabulous on Veronica. Minimal make-up & accessories allows the dress to be the star of the show. Pairing her hat as the only accessory was a perfect way to complete her look. This coin-detailed black hat adds a little edge to this gorgeous, feminine maxi. Sometimes, simple is best!

- Hat – America Eagle
- Shoes – MIA cutout sandals
Oh these colors pop!!! At first glance, I thought this was a color-block dress, but even happier upon closer look to find out this is an open-knit sleeveless vest over a bodycon dress. My fav colors for fall….. see how impactful working with just 2 can be?!?! Her floppy hat, long chain necklace & slouchy bag is so boho adorable, but the fitted bodycon dress & sleek pumps are so sexy chic. Stylistically, these trends are on the opposite ends of the spectrum, but Mary knows how to seamlessly mix them together. Those curls!!! I don’t know if her colbalt hat showcases her gorgeous mane of curls or vice versa … all I know is she is a vision!

Sheela of www.sheelagoh.com
Modern vintage comes to mind with Sheela’s look & I have taken a step back in time! Can you imagine the heads she would turn as she cascades down the stairs for her Grand Entrance in this dramatic look?!?! She would be Best-Dressed hands down! She proves that black is NOT boring with her sexy bralette poking out from the top, sparkly cardigan, paneled fitted skirt & caged heels. All the textures, layers & pop of red in her hat is stunning & a 100% head turner! If I had her confidence, I think I could take on the world!

Jennie of http://www.apocketfulofpolkadots.com
Jennie does fresh, fun & classy so well! Love the fall colors & stripes in her thrifted midi skirt. What an incredible find! For myself, the finishing touches are the best part of her look! Jennie’s camel peep-toed pumps, simple, delicate jewelry, newsboy hat are unique by themselves, but make sense together & this look is great for all occasions including work. She proves that a denim jackets goes with absolutely everything.

Samantha of http://www.fakefabulous.com
Layers of color & interest! How?!?! How do you nail this every time, Samantha?!?! This is textbook on how to do menswear & ladylike. The fabric around your fedora (including feather) & floral print on her skirt matches perfectly. This look is grounded with deep burgundy & black, but the baby blue brightens the entire look. There is nothing better than someone who really pays attention to the small details to complete a look. Samantha’s finishing touch with the 2 little pins on the lapel are wonderful.
- Hat – Christys

This look is MVP for this month’s theme! Ann’s look is the coolest modern spin of Arabian Nights. The turban is so unique! I would have never thought of a turban, but Ann jumps in & styles this with such ease. This is to die for! Taking a structured clean vest with casual denim is style inspiration I will be stealing from her & finishing the look with tennies is just way too cool. Similar to Samantha, I have such appreciation for the finishing details with her layered necklaces, bracelets & gold pin in her turban. Seriously can’t even take how amazing this look is!!!
