We are ageless & we have style!!! This month’s theme is Comfy Looks for Shopping!
Welcome to November & this month’s Ageless Style theme: How to Dress Comfy for Shopping! Nine ladies, the first Tuesday of every month, showcase a different theme & style that’s ageless!
It’s almost that time of year that is all about spending time with friends, loved ones & family, eating our way through Thanksgiving, exchanging gifts at Christmas, reminiscing about the past year & pondering the upcoming year.
Since November starts the beginning of the holiday shopping season including the craziness of Black Friday, now I see why Nicole chose this particular theme for the month. It’s perfect!
My shopping habits throughout the year are quite different than the Holiday shopping period. When I do shop either online or in store, I’m looking for something specific. I just don’t decide to wander through shops/mall in hopes that something catches my eye. I like to shop by myself, so I can go at my own pace & head to the stores that I know I’ll find items that suit my taste. The majority of my shopping is done online. Trying clothing in the comfort of my home versus a tiny dressing room is way better because I can pull pieces from my closet to see how many looks I can create. But, there I times I like to head to the store to physically see & touch the clothing as they can look quite different from the photos on the website. It can be deceiving once an item arrives to your door & that chiffon yellow ends up being a puke sour yellow hue …. ugh!
My family stayed very focused on the true meaning of Christmas/Holiday. The commercialization of Christmas drove them crazy & they tried very hard to steer away from the gift giving pressures. They wanted it to be about a time to give more to your community & to those truly in need. We volunteered by feeding the homeless & those struggling to get food on the table for their families. We also spent time playing board games, having meals in the dining room, going to church & just being together.
So, I never got sucked into the pressure of buying so many gifts for those who really don’t have “needs”, but to give to those IN NEED. This mindset has stuck with me as an adult.
If my hubby & I do any shopping for others, we decide on something they will cherish for years to come & hunt for items they could possibly use every day. We are the couple you find wandering through the mall on the 23rd after the crowds have already headed home. It’s not that we are procrastinators; running around buying loads of gifts just isn’t a priority for us. We don’t have the stress of tackling a long list of gifts to purchase. We tend to have the mall to ourselves, enjoy meandering in & out of shops & make sure we enjoy a quiet meal together.
This look is a typical everyday option & is also ideal. Flats are a must, as you know there is a ton of walking involved when it comes to shopping. My cross body bag allows both hands to be free & is much safer maneuvering through crowds. I admit that I inevitably I end up finding a little something for myself to try on, so not wearing too many layers is important if you plan to hit the dressing room. Since we finish our shopping adventure with a meal, comfy loose pants are great.
I don’t wear a ton of black, but love prints & pops of color. This look is loud, but the lines are clean & simple. When I find a sweater with sleeves that are long enough for my “ape arms”, I don’t hesitate to make the purchase… this one fits perfectly! The tracksuit trousers are so current & a little sporty, my loafers add a little menswear vibe & I just can’t get enough of the vibrant plaid print coat. You could also pair these trousers with a killer graphic tee, sneakers & leather jacket for a cool street style.
