As the Holidays are fast approaching, every store window, magazine cover & many Autumn/Winter Runway shows are full of sparkle & sequins.
All that glitz is so appropriate for this time of year, but I love the subtle approach of shimmer. It’s still luminous, but not full-on glamour, so it’s not only perfect for evening attire or that special Holiday Party, but works perfectly for day!
Exactly! Why wait for the Holiday Season?!?! You can add shimmer any time by incorporating it with contrasting pieces. Add a chambray shirt with a shimmery skirt, or better yet, a super cool graphic tee. I love the look of a shimmery strappy dress, white tee & sneakers. Also, keeping the fabric light, fit loose & clean creates a more casual, cool vibe. There are so many options to help reinvent the look to make it more current & high fashion. Think outside the box with sweatshirts, brogues, bomber jackets, shorts & slouchy pants. I even found some fun shimmer beanies at Urban Outfitters for more street style vibe.
This was my first stab with shimmer, so I went a bit hog wild, but fashion is all about having fun & seeing how far you can style a piece or 2! This flowing dress is actually layered over a midi skirt elongate the shape to create a slim silhouette. I didn’t want to look like a Star Trek cast member or a can of Coors Lite, so it was best to break up this head-to-toe monochrome shimmer with this textured, small printed jacket.
Since we work in the entertainment industry, the majority of our days turn into work at night at the drop of a hat, so I always need to wear something that DOES go from day to night easily. We had an early-evening event to attend after working in the office, so I wore this look for the better part of the day. Basically, I was just too lazy to change my entire outfit, but I found this to be comfy to run errands, hit the coffee shop & office!
On our way to the city, we drove by this park/basketball court & the lighting was so gorgeous, so we jumped out & shot for about 15 minutes before heading into Boston. The impromptu shoots surprisingly turn out the best & most fun!!!
My sandals are from H&M (no longer available), but here is something similar from NastyGal.
Apologies for my chicken skin, it was a bit chilly in the shade, but oh so lovely in the sun!
My watch & ring are TokyoBay from Leaf Boutique in Brookline.
My delicate pearl, silver necklace was a gift from a dear friend.
It’s unique & fun to take an evening only piece & making it work for day. What piece would you try for a day look & how would you style it?
