Can You Be a Blogger on a Zero Budget?
Can I still call myself a fashion blogger if I’m not investing in fashion?
It’s been an extremely stressful year with more surprises than I could have ever imagine. We aren’t complaining, as we know, life sometimes likes to throw lemons & lots of ‘em! With the craziness surrounding us, I started to wrestle with thoughts of how I am living my life. I can honestly say, I have a strong awareness, but I was in my head more so than ever before, constantly questioning:
- Is it worthwhile?
- Is it meaningful?
- Am I living selfishly?
- Am I satisfied?
- Am I motivated, inspired or passionate enough?
- Am I making a positive impact on others?
After much thought & plenty of talks, my hubby & I decided to make some impactful changes in our lives. Here are the important, meaningful goals:
- Reduce our spending. Like, seriously, severe all spending
- Reduce our overhead / Do more with less
- Reduce the amount of STUFF around us
- Save more for our future
Tangent: We are anal recyclers, but want to do more to reduce our footprint on our planet. We want to focus more on the intangible versus on the material stuff around us. This was only stressing us more, making us feel more enclosed. Selling our house, moving to a small condo, getting rid of furniture & various items was so cleansing.
Ok, back on track!
For us, & like many others out there, finances are a constant worry & driving force for our lifestyle change!!! If we reduced our spending, reduced our overhead, it would allow us to focus on the important things in life that really mattered.
My husband was making WAY MORE sacrifices than I, so I needed to step up to the plate. My biggest expenses: clothing & wine. But, there was my sacrifice! …. What? Are you crazy?!?! Did you really think I would eliminate that tasty cold bevie we enjoy together after a long day’s work? I think not! How do you think we decided on this committed change as a couple anyway? It certainly didn’t happen in the morning. There is absolutely no chance of any life-changing, intelligent idea prior to caffeine entering our bloodstream. It was many long conversations over a glass of wine after non-stop, stressful days that we knew we wanted something more as individuals & as a couple. Oh, don’t worry, we are not alcoholics (insert crazy face emoji).
Now, scroll back up to the top….
The answer is yes. Ok, a 90% yes! There is just No Way you can go forever without purchasing something; that’s unrealistic. But for now, I will try to go 3 months without purchasing anything. The next quarterly budget for blogging: ZERO, yes, ZERO dollars!
3 months from now, I will reevaluate the situation, but I do know I will keep to a very strict budget. More on that when spring comes……
I’m not dreading this by any means; I’m super excited to challenge my creativity, discover how well items can work from one season to the next & learn how to better coordinate pieces in my closet.
This is the first of 3 blog posts showcasing the following basic piece: H&M soft pink slip dress
Why this piece?
I love the pale pink hue, the lace, the loose fit & it is so comfortable to wear. I’ve already showcased how to wear it during summer & then transitioned it for fall. I knew I could take this a step further by warming up this slip dress with layers to achieve a cold weather-appropriate look.
Loved to hear what you think! Leave your comments!
Eeek! It’s cold, I’m outta here!
