One of the best things about blogging is meeting incredible, positive, inspirational, like-minded women who have a love for fashion & style. But, these women are so much deeper than what they wear to express themselves. They are smart, intelligent, thoughtful, have great awareness, are eager to take risks & always strive for excellence, not only within themselves, but also within their families & communities. This is why I am so excited to have the honor of collaborating with Sherry of Petite over 40.
I bet you’ve been bombarded with the big question: What are your resolutions? These are huge decisions & should not be rushed. Taking the time to contemplate & think about those important moves is so important. We wanted to give you a chance to get into the New Year’s groove & have some time to ponder. So after some thought & a few emails, we’d like to share with you our New Endeavors & hopefully give you inspiration & keep you motivated as the initial New Year’s resolution spark begins to wear off.
It didn’t take long for Sherry & I to decide on a theme for this collaboration. We share the commonality of starting our fashion blogs at roughly the same time (a little over a year ago). This journey has been such an exciting, creative way to express ourselves through our personal style. Through this avenue of self-expression, we are taking risks by sharing our outfits with the masses & opening ourselves up to the positive, as well as, the snarky comments from the “trolls” of the web.
For our first year, we both knew we were introducing our personal style aesthetic to the world of blogging. We were showcasing what was totally in our wheelhouse, what was most comfortable stylistically, but was this TOO comfortable?
We said YES!!!
As we approached the New Year, we were ready to step into something bigger. Since the New Year, coincides with new resolutions, positive changes & new endeavors, this was a perfect time to go outside our comfort zone, push our boundaries & really challenge ourselves through our fashion & style choices.
Sherry’s father shared a very personal word of advice “always broaden your horizons “ .
This was PERFECT, not only for this specific post, but the vision for moving forward with each look we create, each blog we share, making everyday a new possibility. Our new mission: Always search for that new horizon to explore. It’s ongoing; it’s never-ending!!! The never-ending opportunities are out there to push your boundaries; you just have to be willing to search for those opportunities.
When you surrender, you increase your willingness to broaden your horizons, you are willing to venture into new territory to take risks, expand yourself, challenge the norm & therefore GROW!
When you grow, you gain confidence, when you gain confidence; you are a step closer to be the best version of yourself.
I will use the analogy of succeeding in a sport. If an athlete wants to excel, physically pushing yourself is a must, the hard work is uncomfortable, it might feel weird at first, but with consistent repetitive visits with this training, you break through & you reach an improved level of excellence.
Why can’t we apply the same practice with our style?
Let’s take a peek at Sherry’s look. If this isn’t a bold move, then I don’t know what is! This is the epitome of a statement coat & the fiery red color takes it to another level of fierce. I think one of the characters of “The Matrix” should have used this coat for one of the fight scenes! As soon as Sherry sheds the coat, her long-sleeve shirt is a stand-alone piece as well. Take notice of the beautiful outline of the floral print, then the 80s rocker chick enveloping her sleeve is just way too cool. Grounding the look with muted kick flare pants & dark boots was a great option. The best finishing touch is her baby pink tresses, this is beyond fun & I love seeing this side of her!
Each individual piece in my look fits my style aesthetic, but placing them together to create this look takes me very much out of my comfort zone. Incorporating an outfit with such a girly, SHORT skater skirt is out of my realm, but I oh soooo loved the color! Showing this much leg is also something I’ve never been comfortable doing, but I wanted to take a risk. I admit, I do worry what people will say, how they will judge me …. on top of the fact, this ensemble was clearly not conducive for freezing temperatures. Pairing the baby blue, bold red & tie it all together with the black trim on my top & bag was the perfect finishing touch. I took this color inspiration from one of Erin’s look, the designer who won the latest season of Project Runway.
