Welcome to 2017 & the First Installment of the Year with The Fab 40s!
Life is like a Tug-O-War!
It’s the daily challenge of pushing through tough situations & pulling away from negativity that drags you away from accomplishing positive goals for yourself. It’s opposing sides tugging at each other, pulling at each other to demonstrate who is stronger. But, that’s not the case with styling. Oddly enough, opposites play very well together, they balance each other & create quite the combination.
For this month’s theme, both leather & lace win!
I can safely say that everyone has leather in his or her closets, most likely in jacket form. It makes a feminine look, daring; a classic look, sexy. Leather immediately changes the feel of a look to a “don’t-mess-with-me”, badass vibe. Lace is the polar opposite of leather. It has a sweet, ladylike feel to any piece either it be a dress, blouse or skirt.
But, adding leather & lace together creates the perfect match. Mixing opposites & showcasing contrast allows you to explore more than one side of your personality when it comes to style. With the leather & lace combo, we could revisit the grunge vibe (November’s Fab 40s theme), go girly & cheeky, bold with boho, maybe mod, perfectly punk, chic & classic or even an office appropriate look. The number of looks is endless.
I tell you, it’s tough to shoot white & not over expose. But, think my hubby & I did the best we could. Hopefully you can see the details in my look such a the lace in my blouse & perforated pattern in my faux leather shorts.
The back opening of the blouse is so flirty!
Had these earrings for years; love the tiny little pearl dangling from the off-white rose.
Kent Stetson never disappoints with his unique designs. Love the abstract print of this clutch.

Let’s take a look at the full gamut of options with leather & lace as displayed by my 7 stylish, fashionista friends. We have everything from fun day looks to full-tilt glamour looks!
GUEST BLOGGER for the MONTH
Kimberly of http://www.hautelifenow.com
Sexy & classy! Kimberly is teasing us with a tiny little glimpse of skin, but added a bit of modesty with her classic high-waisted, slim-fitting pants, pumps & sleek clutch. This is such a sophisticated & elevated look & the precious detail in the lace of her crop top is absolutely divine. With Hollywood Awards Season upon us, I think this is a perfect, fashion-forward red carpet look!

Mary, our theme host for this month, never disappoints with her high-end glamorous looks & this month is no different. May I start with her accessories? It’s all about animal print & she pulls it together with ease as if it was a neutral. Creating a monochrome look with her chic, green waist belt & leather skirt creates the classic hourglass silhouette that we are so eager to see.

Samantha of http://www.fakefabulous.com
Loving this muted color palette on Samantha; so different from what we are used to seeing on our resident Color Gal. No one does layering better than Samantha. The taupe/plum turtleneck shows off the lace detail & little colored studs in her jumper. She’s another fashionista friend whose closet I would love to raid for her shoe collection. These lace wedged booties are so fun & such a fun pop of white to brighten up this look.

Sheela of www.sheelagoh.com
Blush, Black & Badass Boots!!! Sheela needs to be in a For Love & Lemons Ad Campaign, or better yet, Fee People! This is the perfect example of how to blend hard with soft when pulling together an entire look. One of my favorite colors of all time & seeing blush in leather makes this a WOW moment. I had to zoom in on the black flower petals with the little metal detail dangling from the bottom of her tassels…. all I can say is Whoa!!! Oh, another Whoa for that incredible statement necklace!

Jennie of http://www.apocketfulofpolkadots.com
Jennie is hitting every note with this look! Her lace heels & top are so beautifully feminine & pairing them with a menswear inspired tuxedo jacket creates the perfect balance. The polka dot print versus plain black jacket makes this insta fun. Her fitted leather pants are sleek & sexy. Her gold brooch & colorful, sequined clutch add a pop of color to this black/white look. Feminine, masculine, fun, sexy & details, yep, it’s all there!

Veronica of http://www.cidstylefile.com
This is all-black done right! I love all the texture, varying lengths & perfect details. Veronica has one of the most stunning faces & loved that she pulled her back in a simple braid to show off her statement earrings & chic sunnies. This is by far the coolest detailing in booties that I’ve seen in a long time.
