St. Augustine stirs something in me. I have so much invested into this area emotionally & it tugs at my heartstrings. I wish I could properly express the intense feelings I have towards this little hidden gem. As a child, my entire family visited this place every summer & when my father passed, he had his ashes spread at sea just outside the bay. When I’m here, I feel close to him. Ever since his ceremony & saying my final goodbyes, purchasing a home has been such an emotional dream & goal for myself. Outside of marrying my husband, nothing has meant more to me, seriously nothing.
For years after that, my hubby & I rented vacations homes in the Lincolnville area of St. Augustine. During our bike rides, we would pass this particular house & loved hearing the sounds of a tinkering piano drift outside the windows. We would always say, “ This would be the best house to buy in St. Augie …. if only.” A year later this home went on the market & we couldn’t resist. We knew it might be a financial strain, but would’ve been crushed if we missed this chance, so we went for it & purchased!
Once we got the keys, we were beyond thrilled to finally sink our teeth into this renovation. The level of happiness & excitement was immeasurable. We had a perfect vision for what we wanted & our theme was Modern Beach style. We wanted a space that was light, airy, cozy & functional. Since we were in Florida, drawing on the light sea colors was perfect throughout the house.
This drab empty room (as you can see in the photo) started with one tiny window, the most vile puke mustard yellow wall color & mismatched doors that didn’t even fit the door openings. Even though the room has almost 10-foot ceilings & window that only gets sunset light, we still wanted to choose a light color to open up the space as much as possible. We painted with this inviting minty green from Behr called Dew Drop.
Every space begins with a great foundation & we are proud that all the large pieces are thrifted, made from reclaimed wood or hand-made from scratch. My hubby went to work utilizing original wood reclaimed from the kitchen demo & created a bed frame that a white wash pickling stain was applied. My mister handyman also made these simple end tables with wood purchase from a local hardware store. The legs are actually plumber’s piping… how cool & unique! We painted the end tables with Behr Dark Ash.
Look how sturdy this bed frame is?!?! Time to caulk in the holes, paint the white wash stain & then 2 coats of polyurethane for protection.
We love heading to the flea market & thrift stores. After a long hunt, we found this amazing Stanley dresser that we sanded, distressed, added fun faucet hardware & painted with Behr cosmic quest. Lastly, we had such fun building this ladder, staining it with diluted grey paint as a neat way to hang extra towels & bathrobes.

My friend Jessica gave us this carry-all box as part of a house-warming gift. She owns this amazing company No. 3 Star Fish Lane. She upcycles furniture found from thrift stores, flea markets & even on the side of the road & transforms them into forever, loved treasures. Her entire vibe is coastal creations; perfect for our home.
We noticed during the first portion of the renovation, you witness these grand changes as walls are getting torn down & ceilings are elevated. But, as you approach the final stages, you work tirelessly for 8 hours & it looks like you have DONE NOTHING! But, taking the time to add the final touches makes ALL the difference. That was the case with this room. As important as it is to take the time to prep the space & build off of a strong foundation, the finishing touches makes the space uniquely you, adds so much character to the room & it’s stylistically fun!!! The finishing touches are the wow factor & what people notice.
That is where Minted comes into play! It is your very own marketplace with the best designs from the most creative, talented independent designers & artists, so you can discover & find “fresh, truly unique art” & home decor all in one place.
Measuring for perfect picture placement!
The spacing looks perfect!
These 3 Santorini photos play perfectly with the coastal, beachy vibe of this room. Not only do they pair nicely with the decor, these photos are a constant reminder of our #1 bucket list … dream trip to the Greek Isles!
The basket weave pattern to this mint-green colored lampshade is so whimsical & different from a plain neutral shade. Minted has hundreds of lampshades in floral, ikat, geometric, dot, feather, animal even oar prints; the options are so endless. These fabric lampshades are custom-made from luxurious, natural-fiber textile to complement a table or floor lamps. I love that each lampshade can come in either choice of a spider or UNO ring. I promise you will find something to suit the any room you are designing!
Instead a hard door, a white cotton curtain hides all the hanging items & adds a bit of softness to the room.
One last look at this bright, warm, cozy room renovation!
It’s obvious with so many before & after photos, we are super proud of our work in this bedroom, along with the rest of the home. There isn’t a day that goes by that without mention of how thankful & blessed we are to afford this little fixer-upper & create a loving, cozy, vacation home for years to come.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
